For me the chinchilla obsession began in late 2004 when a good friend gave me a standard grey male (Foofy) as a pet. At the time, I had very little, to zero knowledge regarding the proper care of chinchillas. I began an extensive search on the internet which led me to several of the popular forums and opened my eyes to Empress Chinchilla and the world of showing and breeding.
In 2005, I purchased my first "show quality" breeding pair (Fivel & Skye from Columbus Chins) and have been going non stop ever since. The number of chinchillas in my herd fluctuates and is dependent on sales, numbers of kits born each year, and if I have received any rescues. Currently I try to maintain my numbers between 30-50, 20 of which are breeders. The rest are kits, chins I am holding for show, or rescues looking for a good quality pet homes.
I attended my first chinchilla show in January 2006 as an observer /student and began showing chinchillas of my own breeding in the 2006-2007 show season. I am very proud to say that we have done fairly well to date having won two 3'rd place Junior Breeder Awards and a 1'st place Junior Breeder Award (Frazier Park, CA Field Day/April, 2008).
